Today was moving day. We were in New York City for two days and were ready to move on. We probably could have done New York City for a couple of more days, but we did enough plus New York City was very expensive and we by-passed most of the tourist attractions that cost money, except for the Statue of Liberty, of course!
Today we wanted to sleep in a little bit, relax, and then leave around noon for Philadelphia, which was about 120 miles away. After checking out campgrounds in the area, we found that yet again, they were about 60 miles outside of the city. Since Matt and I want to see Independence Hall in the middle of Philadelphia, we thought we could just stay at a WalMart in town and then move to Gettysburg tomorrow night.
We found a Walmart right off the interstate and in the near vicitnity of where we wanted to go tomorrow and we took off! Once we found the Walmart, we knew it wasn't going to work for us.
1. The parking lot was too small, there was no place to park the RV.
2. It was not a SuperWalmart and was not open 24 hours a day, which meant there was less security.
3. There was a barbed wire fence across the street!
4. There was graffiti behind the fence across the street!
5. There was trash all over!
6. There were interesting people loitering!
It just didn't look like a great place to spend the night!
It took Matt and I about two minutes to figure out that this would not be a good place for us, but what is plan B? (Anybody remember our crazy night trying to find campgrounds about 2 weeks ago??)
Plan B- We still wanted to stay in Philadelphia, so we looked online for another WalMart. We found a couple in the suburbs and called them, but they did not let RV's stay in their parking lot overnight.
We then called one that was about 10 minutes away and they did allow Rv's in the lot overnight, so we headed over there.
We defiinitely knew that this was not going to be the area we wanted to stay in. We were in the wrong neighborhood! I probably don't need to describe the area because you probably all know what I am talking about!!
Plan C- We called some campgrounds that were about 45 minutes away and they were booked, so we called some even further. We found a place called "The Loose Caboose" campground and it was about an hour away. We called them and they had an opening- off we went!
About an hour later, we showed up at "The Loose Caboose" and here we are! We pulled up right before dark and it seems like a decent place. It is right by Amish country, so the area is beautiful and time has slowed down! It reminds me of when we were in Goshen, Indiana with the horses and buggies on the roads. Too bad we won't have time to discover this area, we are still planning on heading to Philadelphia tomorrow, which is an hour drive back!
We are going to discover Philadelphia tomorrow morning and move onto Valley Forge tomorrow afternoon. On Monday, Matt is going to work in the morning and then we are going to go to Gettysburg in the afternoon and hopefully move to Washington, DC after that. We are then going to stay in DC the rest of the week and head home next weekend!
Now to blog about our last day in Boston before I go on to New York City. Can you deal with this jumping back and forth for awhile??
