Nice Change

Today, we didn't go to the pool! Surprise, surprise!

We went to the spraypark instead! And it was a nice change! The girls loved it, so we will definitely need to go back. I didn't really let Chrisitian down, he's not the best at walking yet, plus there were tons of kids there and he would've gotten knocked over. He was pretty good on my lap for the entire time!

On our way home though, the girls started the fighting all over again. We weren't even home and I had given them both a sad face for the day. When we got home, I banned them to their own rooms and told them I wasn't going to be breaking up their fights all afternoon.

About an hour later, Courtney came downstairs where Megan was, they got snacks, and they've been playing great ever since.

I think a little "quiet time" for each of us can do some real good around here!

Shower time!

Today was bath day, but since we were at the pool all day, I waited until tonight to wash them up.

Lately, we've been having both girls take a shower together. They can both wash their hair and themselves, so it's been working out great. Courtney does need a little help with her hair, but for the most part, it's been wonderful!

Tonight, I wanted to try some new shampoo on their hair to see if I could get the chlorine out better, so I thought I would help them. This is our old way of giving them a shower. I put both girls in, I rinse them off, give Megan shampoo and she washes her hair, I wash Courtneys, both girls wash themselves off with soap, I rinse them off and we are done.

Ugh, tonight I remembered why them doing the whole thing themselves causes me much less stress!

Here is all I heard:

(first rinse)
"The water is too hot!"
"The water is too cold!"
"The water is in my eyes!"
"I NEED a towel!" (not once, but about 3 times from each girl!)
"I want to stand there."
"She's in my space!"

(shampoo time)
"That's not enough!" or "That's too much!"
Tonight I heard, "That's the wrong shampoo, I want to use THIS stuff!"
"That hurts." (while scrubbing their head)
"I can do it MYSELF."

(Rinsing everything off)
"I don't want to put my head back, I would rather have soap in my eyes."
"The water is in my eyes, I need a towel (again!)."

(Drying off)
"I don't want that color of a towel!"

ME after they are out of the tub:
"Dry!"
"Get your bathrobe on!"
"Dry your hair better, it's still dripping down your back."
"What, you don't want to brush your teeth right now, oh well"
"Come here, I still need to brush your hair."
"Yes, you need to brush your teeth the entire two minutes!"
"Go get dressed, go get dressed, go get dressed."
"Put your bathrobe back in the bathroom."

Ahhh, I wanted to scream! As for Thursday night, they are on their own again!

After this all, I still had to give Christian a bath. At least he can't talk yet, he just cries at me.

The best part of it all- I haven't taken a shower yet today! Am I next??

(I know gross, right? But I knew I was going to be swimming all day and I'll take one right away tomorrow, I just didn't get to it today. :)

Time to go!

Today we spent literally all day at the gym, except for lunch.

here's how it went:
Water aerobics for me 9:15
ballet for Megan 9:30
Scooter class for Courtney 9:30
Craft time for Courtney 10
Christian was in childcare in the morning

Swimming lessons for both girls 10:45 (they tested today, so hopefully they will pass)

Lunch with my mom at Oakview

Back to the gym by 1:30 and we swam outside until 4. All 4 of us with some friends.

When I told the girls it was time to go, Courtney had a fit. "But I want to swim some more!!" My response was, "Courtney, we've been here all day, it's time to go. We can come back tomorrow" I hadn't let Dell out all day and I do like some time to myself, so we changed clothes and headed home.

Ahhh, it's so peaceful here at home. It was a beautiful day out, but really, at the gym for 6 hours, it's time to go home!

Swimming!

I was so proud of Megan yesterday at the swimming pool. She swam all the way across the pool doing her backstroke and frontstroke! She was sooo excited and so was I!! She did this without her lifejacket too, so this is a huge accomplishment!

I even swam with her a couple of laps, but couldn't keep up with her. I kept looking back hoping that she wasn't going under, but she did great! She probably swam 10 lengths of the pool by the time we were done swimming!

Way to go Megan!!

No fighting today?

Today went well. I don't think we had any fights between the two girls.

Half of it was because we weren't home for most of the day and the other half was because Megan was on the couch for the evening. She decided to throw up about 4 this afternoon! (I really hope none of us get what she had, I personally think she ate something. She is fine tonight.)

They had all smiley faces on their chore chart tonight- even though Megan got out of her chores!

Good job girls!

New Day!

Today was a new day and my goal was to not give the girls any sad faces on their chore charts.

(They have a column for "attitude." Most of the time, they get smily faces, but lately when their attitude has not been good, they get sad faces. At the end of the week, one sad face equals the loss of one nickel. This is not so bad, but Megan had four sad faces yesterday, hence my blog entry when I was very frustrated with her behavior!)

We stayed home this morning and then this afternoon we went to a bubble show at the local library. After that was over, I finally got Christian's one year pictures done at Portrait Innovations. Of course, they tried to sell me $500 worth of pictures, but no, I will only take the $9.95 package, thank you!

After that, we walked down to Scheel's and I let the girls ride the ferris wheel. We got to the ferris wheel and found out that Megan could've rode by herself, but Courtney could not because she was too short. Another grandma was there in the same predicimate with her grandchildren. It was funny because both of us adults refused to ride! The ferris wheel operator actually had a Scheel's emploee come and ride with our kids. I thought that was nice of them! Somebody had to stay on the ground with Christian, right??

We got back in the car and we weren't even out of the parking lot and the girls were fighting! They had done soooo well all afternoon. I gave them one warning, "You fight and you will automaically earn sad faces." They quit right there!

I think yesterday got to be too long of a day. Usually we stay home in the morning and then go out in the afternoon OR we go out in the morning, take lunches/ get lunch somewhere, and then stay out into the afternoon. Yesterday, we were home by 11:45 from swimming lessons PLUS it was rainy out, so I couldn't let them go outside to play. The girls were just not playing well yesterday, so I think it was a mixture of everything.

Tomorrow we have swimming lessons again in the morning, so hopefully our afternoon will go well!

I wish...

...it wasn't raining so I could kick the kids outside to play!

...Christian didn't have chicken pox and we could go swimming at the gym! (don't worry, they have an indoor pool)

...my girls would get along 100% of the time!

...Megan would stop trying to carry Christian around! The poor boy can walk, let him be!

...Courtney would stop crying because nobody will play with her.

...Christian might nap again, he naps once at 11 for an hour and that is it for the day lately!

...I could keep my gym membership in the fall.

...we could decide whether to homeschool or send Megan back to Aldrich next year.

...I could work with the girls more on what they are learning in swimming lessons. I'm not super-impressed with their teachers, good thing it is included in the gym membership.

...my girls cared about getting sad faces for their bad behavior during the day. Megan cares, Courtney doesn't care as much.

...we didn't have so many leftovers in our fridge right now, I want to make something new for dinner, but don't want even more leftovers!

...I could figure out how to export pictures from my the program on my new-to-me computer. I have so many I want to share!

Thoughts on a late Friday night

1. Why must there be fireworks already? really? And yes, this is my least favorite holiday of the entire year. If you know me well, you know I don't like loud noises. Hence why I don't like the fourth of July.

2. Christian's neurons are connecting so much lately, it is so much fun to watch! He is doing things these last couple of days that he has not done before. He is beginning to know more words like ball, truck, car, chair, eat, drink in addition to those he already knew. Tonight I asked him if he wanted some "milk" (to nurse) and he went over and got the pillow. (I always use a pillow when I feed him.) I was amazed that he put that together!

3. I'm not sure if he's got a low immune system or not, but he got his chicken pox vaccine on Monday and he's breaking out in spots already. It may be bug bites too, so I am going to watch him. I hope it's not chicken pox because we have a weekend full of plans!

4. I love having my girls home together! They entertain each other sooo well, except when they are fighting. I will even come into the playroom to play with them and they will say, "Mommy, you can be in here, but don't talk to us" or they will leave and go to another room to play. Thanks girls. :)

5. Christian got his first haircut yesterday. It's pretty cute now. He didn't get a buzz cut like Matt wanted, but he did get a lot cut off. He's probably cooler now with all his hair gone.

6. Matt bought a new computer last week, so I inherted his old one, which is a 100 times faster than the one I had! Seriously, sometimes it would take me 10 minutes to write an email! This new one is super-fast, but of course, I have to figure out how to use Windows 7 and get it all set back up again. Ugh. I will get there...

7. It feels like summer just started, but I feel like we're already counting down until school starts again in August. I think we have something planned for about every weekend until then. That is just crazy! Millard should give these kids a longer summer!

8. Even though it's half way through June already, we still don't have our camper or jetskis out of winter storage. Terrible, isn't it? We were gone on vacation last weekend and like I said, we have something planned for almost every weekend. Matt and I have also agreed that camping for two days is just not worth all the work. When we go out this summer (if we ever do), we want to stay for at least 3-4 days. It's too much work with 3 kids!!

9. I joined a gym at the end of May and we have been using it a lot! They have an indoor and outdoor pool, so we can use those anytime we want. The girls are also enrolled in swimming lessons and Megan is in ballet, so we are attending those this summer. I would like to stay a member in the fall, but it's too expensive for all the kids. Maybe I will just make Christian and myself members- I love exercising and I think it's a great break for all of us!

10. I really didn't mean to get to number 10, but I did! How about a great kudos to all those dads out there as we celebrate Father's Day this weekend? Tonight Courtney and Megan were talking about all the things Matt does for them, unprompted too. "He works so we can eat, he buys us food, he takes care of us, etc." It was sweet hearing them say things like that, they are getting it! Happy Father's Day!

PS- Why is is 10:25 and Megan just came into give me ANOTHER kiss and hug? Go to bed already!!

Bad Attitude :(

I have had a lot of this at my house this week between my two girls. If it's not one girl giving me attitude, it is the other. This is going to be a long summer if they don't get their act together.

I wish this would all go back to where it came from and give me my sweet girls back!

(One just got CARRIED to her room because telling her 50 times to go wasn't enough...screaming the entire way and I almost got kicked by her on the way out. Needless to say, I haven't heard anything come out of her room for the last 20 minutes!)

12 month checkup

To continue the birthday celebrations, I took Christian in for his one year checkup today.

Weight- 21 lbs. 12 oz (35%)
Height- 31 inches (85%)

He is long and skinny, I wonder where he gets that from!!

The doctor checked him out and says he looks great. We are still nursing, so hopefully he will start weaning himself soon. My goal is to be done within a month or so, but I do want him to self-wean. It's better for both of us.

Christian has only gotten 8 teeth so far and on his gums, he has spots where his molars should be that look like cysts with bluish color on the side of them. I had the doctor look at them and she said they are blood blisters where his teeth are coming in. She says they are rare, but she does see them (I have heard this before!). She said that when his teeth come through, they will bleed a lot, so be ready and don't freak out!

We also talked about vaccinations. He was supposed to get MMR, Chicken Pox, Hep B and Hep A today. All of them except for the Heb B were new. I was not ok with giving him three brand new shots when I am still taking his urine in monthly for urine checks from his HSP, which could've been caused by the flu shot. In the end, we decided to spread them out. I asked her which one would be the least likely to give him a reaction and she said the chicken pox. She said he's probably more likely to get exposed to chicken pox before measles, mumps, or rubella. So we gave him chicken pox and hep B. He had this one earlier and had no problems with it. We are going to spread the rest out then. Sounds like a plan to me!

They also checked his CBC today, which came back normal, so that was great. Urine check was normal too. The poor thing walked out with four bandaids today (one on each middle finger for the blood draw. One nurse did it first and he didn't bleed enough, so another nurse came and gave him a warm pack on the other hand and then she got enough blood. He also had a bandaid on each leg from his shots)

Remind me next time to have the girls go to the hallway while we are taking blood/ giving shots. Courtney was very concerned about Christian and did not like it when they were taking his blood. Christian wasn't crying and didn't seem to care, but Courtney was close to tears. I wasn't too concerned, but after they gave him his two shots, I looked over at her and she had tears running down her face! Sweet thing! Then I see Megan hiding out behind the chair- apparently she was having trouble with it all too! I love their empathy for their little brother! I think the whole place heard them crying- they were not quiet about it! We were all a mess there for a couple of minutes! Poor Courtney, I think she'll have to get 4 or 5 shots at her kindergarten physical in about a year. Yikes! Not looking forward to that one!

The doctor was also impressed that he was walking, I told her that he is into everything and is opposite of my sweet girls who would sit for hours and play with toys. She was also giving me some ideas how to block off our stairs.

So all in all, a good visit! We go back in at 15 months! (But I still have to take a urine sample in next month and I think we're going to get another shot)

Side Note- After I got home and got to talking about this with Matt, we thought it was funny that he's always having "blood" problems. He had low blood platelets when he was born, his HSP was bruising, and now we have blood blisters in our mouth. Kind of odd.

The Birthday Party is over!

Matt and I did it! We made it through the birthday party!

We were up at 7 am this morning getting things ready. We ended up skipping church, we hated to since we didn't go last week, but really needed the time. (Really, we will go next week!).

It is a challenge getting everything ready plus taking care of three children. We actually told Megan we would pay her fifty cents if she watched Christian, she did for awhile and then ran upstairs to play. He had to hang out in his pack n play while I mopped the kitchen floor.

And of course, the party cannot go on without some glitches.

Glitch #1 Matt went to Dollar Tree to get four ballons. When he got home, he opened the door to his truck and three blew out- gone! Well, he did go chasing after them, but they got away too fast. At least he had one. I called his mom and she picked up three more.

Glitch #2 The other day I ordered a MEAT tray from walmart, not a meat and cheese tray, but all meat. When Matt picked it up, he didn't noticed what is was. He got home and it was a meat and cheese tray, even though the order said a meat tray! I didn't think there would be enough meat on it, so again, I called his mom and she picked up some more meat for us (Only after picked up cheese because I thought there would only be meat on it!) Ugh, in the end, we didn't need any extra meat!

Glitch #3 We rented a table and 12 extra chairs for today. Next time, we're not going to rent any-nobody sat at the table and only 2 or 3 of the chairs were used. This seems to happen every time!

I will say though that I had the best cake today than I have ever had at the kids' birthday parties. I made it myself and it was also the cheapest one I've ever made! I was quite proud!

Now, I have to continue to clean up the mess tomorrow. Three days to clean, two hours to destroy, and another three days to clean up because I am so tired from cleaning originally and the party, it takes awhile to put everything back away!

In the end, I have a happy one year old, who finally took a bath at 9 pm to get the chocolate out of his hair from his cake!

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Lots to do yet!

Yikes, it's 10:30 at night and still have a list of things that need to be done before the big birthday party tomorrow. Unfortunately, I might have to skip church to get these done.

1. Vaccuum the entire house, including the steps. mop the kitchen and bathroom floors. This will take awhile!!

2. Go to Dollar Tree. I love thier $1 balloons plus I need to get plates, bowls, napkins, cups, silverware. Hopefully they are stocked in the color blue. :)

3. Go to Walmart to pick up the meat tray.

4. Make Christian's cake. My goal is to make a dump truck cake. I need to make a 9 x 13 cake and the I am going to crumble it up to look like dirt, coat it with a chocolate drizzle, crumble up oreo cookies and add some gummy worms. Hopefully it will work.

I also need to make Christian's "smash" cake. Since walmart doesn't make these anymore (who knew?), I need to make my own. I bought a 6 inch cake pan, so I thought I would just make a little one, cover it in brown frosting, and add a dump truck on top. Sounds easy enough, right?

5. Get the ballon weights and candle out of the attic. This involves backing Matt's car out, getting down the attic ladder, and climbing up there. Hopefully the box is right at the top, otherwise it might take awhile. If I was smart, I would've thought of that today while we were putting totes of clothes back up there.

Matt needs to:

1. Go to the rental store and get tables and chairs

2. Hose down the patio

Plus take care of myself and 3 children while doing all these things!

Drama at Spaghetti Works

Well, we ended up going out for supper tonight to celebrate birthday/ anniversary.

Matt ordered a new computer and of course I was gone when it arrived, so they left a note and said we could pick it up at UPS at Bellevue. So off we went.

After we picked his package up, we headed to Spaghetti Works in Ralston. This always works great because everybody in our family likes noodles plus they have the salad bar which works great for the baby!

We ordered our food and all was well. We were having a great time together. Our waitress though, I will say, was a little pushy. Since we didn't get there til about 8:15, I think she was ready to get out the door. She was at our table about every 5 minutes and wanted to know if she could take dishes off or bring Christian his sundae. The poor thing was still eating every time she came. Finally, we said, "sure, just bring it." But in the meantime, without us knowing, she had picked up Courtney's plate of noodles and took them away.

Next thing we know, Courtney is looking around for her noodles and when she realized that they were gone, she started to cry! Poor thing! I almost couldn't believe it either. She was eating off three plates at the time, so the waitress probably thought she was done, but she really wasn't!

Soon Christian's sundae comes and we all take some pictures and have a good time with it. Courtney looks down again and now the waitress had taken her other two plates! She had half a pizza left and her salad plate! She got all upset again! Like I said, I think the waitress was in a hurry to get us out of there, but usually they ask before they take plates off. I wanted to mention something to her, but Matt said to let it be, so I did.

We got home about 9:45 and Courtney had forgotten about it all, except she was begging for more food after we walked in the door. The poor thing was still hungry. Christian probably was too, we took his food away at the restraurant because we didn't want the sunday to melt.
Probably not the wisest decision, but what do you do? Courtney has also informed me that we are NOT going there for her birthday in August!

The best part about this all is that we used a giftcard that somebody had given us last year when we had Christian! (Except there was supposed to be $30 on it, but the waitress could only get it to read $25. hmmm.)

The Big Day!!

Today is the day that Matt and I have been looking forward to/ dreading all year. :)

It is our anniversary, but then last year, Christian had to come along and steal it.

What do we celebrate tonight? Our anniversary or a birthday? How do you celebrate both?

Do we go out by ourselves or take the children?

Do we get to pick where we go, or like usual, should we let the children pick?

Do we make it kid-friendly?

I know one thing, the girls will not get to decide what we do tonight. Mom, Dad, and Christian get to decide. :)

Ugh, Christian, I said you could be born on June 9th or the 11th, why the 10th???

It's cleaning time!

We are having a birthday party here for Christian on Sunday.

You know what that means...I have to clean my house!

The problem is that I have these little piles sitting around my house- piles for the goodwill, piles of easter baskets, curtains and kitchen decorations that need to go up, bouncy seats and swings that need to be put away, winter clothes that need to be packed away, etc.

These all need to be put away and the rest of the house needs to be cleaned in 5 days.

I guess it's time I get busy! It usually takes me a week to get the house clean!

It's summer time!

When Matt left this morning, I told him it feels like our first day of summer vacation.

We just got back from a long weekend in Kansas City, which was great fun and family bonding time:) But since Megan just got out of school on Wednesday and we got ready on Thursday and Friday, we've had no time to enjoy having no school.

Now today I have to get the kids up, we're off to the gym for ballet, craft time, and swimming lessons! I don't think we're going to be home much this summer. :)

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Up so early?

It's the first day of summer vacation and I am up at 6 am. Not just awake like usual, but up, sitting on my computer. Why? 6:30, or even 7, would be better....
