Thursday, September 5th, 2013- Let's explore Cape Cod, Massachusetts!

I am very thankful we all got to sleep in on Thursday! It was great! We also all took showers again! With our lack of campsites and rushing in and out, I didn't realize that we hadn't had showers since right before we left Camp Sandusky- on Sunday!! Yuck! I guess we are camping though. :)

We kind of had the morning to ourselves on Thursday because Matt needed to work again.  We spent most of it in the camper because it was chilly outside.  Courtney had taken a shower the night before and in the morning, Matt had discovered water on the floor outside the bathroom walls.  The water was also in front of our sink, stove, fridge.  Matt was on a mission to find out where this water was coming from, so he had taken our camper apart!

He had the kitchen drawers all pulled out, the cover taken off the furnace from below the fridge, and the cover taken off the water heater underneath the stove. He had borrowed a fan from the campground and hopefully this would dry it all up. It was a mystery! (As I write this Friday night, Matt thinks that the hot water heater was leaking.  Before he figured this out, he called local RV dealers in the area, Forest River in Goshen, IN, and Leach Camper sales in Council Bluffs. Nobody was being very helpful! )

About 2 pm, he declared that he was ready to stop working and go exploring!  He was really anxious to see the ocean, so he suggested that we go to Cape Cod.  I looked up some things to do on Cape Cod and found this neat statue to the Pilgrims, except it was way at the tip of the island.  Once we put this into our GPS, we found that it was over 100 miles away!

We thought we would just head in that direction and see what happened.  There was also the Cape Cod National Seashore, so we knew we definitely had to stop there and see the Atlantic Ocean.

About 1 1/2 hours into the trip, we reached the ocean! Unfortunately, it was pretty cold and windy out, so we just walked around for awhile.  There was a huge cliff to get down to the beach, so fortunately, there were really nice steps built to get down there! Do you see Matt and Courtney at the bottom of the steps?

We stayed here for a little while and walked up and down the beach front. Courtney and Megan both got caught in the water unexpectantly, so they had wet shoes on for awhile!

We got back in the car and continued down the cape.  We drove all the way to the end and this is what we saw:

Ok, if you read this sign, it says that we were at the end of US highway 6.  This is the same highway that makes up Dodge Street in Omaha!! This sign was at the end of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  Shortly after this sign, the street turned into an entrance into a beach and that was the end of the island!

We drove around a little bit and eventually saw the Pilgrim Monument, but were too late, so we didn't get to go in.

Our next mission was to find some seafood to eat! You can't go to the east coat and not eat any seafood!  We stopped at a place called Moby Dick's for supper and we all ate seafood! It was really good.

After we were done eating, we got back in the truck and drove the 2 hours home!  I am very thankful for DVD players!

We got home about 9:30 and then it was off to bed!
