After playing basketball for 4 months, we are finally done for awhile. Courtney and Christian played in January and February with the Upward Program and about a week after they finished with that, they started playing at the YMCA! It has been a great experience and both kids have learned a lot. Matt and I have learned that Courtney has a huge passion for basketball and would probably play it all day long if we would let her!
She almost didn't get to play in her last game today. During last week's practice (a week ago Friday), she fell and then somebody stepped on her wrist. It hurt pretty bad Friday night. It was still pretty painful and swollen on Monday, so I went and had it x-rayed. Luckily, nothing was broken. While this was healing, we said she could go to practice last Wednesday, but gave her specific instructions not play so hard and don't try any three pointers! During this practice though, she was going for a rebound and jammed two fingers!! What am I going to do with her?? These were then swollen for a couple of days! At one point, Matt mentioned that she could not go to practice on Friday night or play in her game today! She needed to let her wrist and fingers heal.
Courtney, the smart one that she is, pleaded with Matt. They only have six people on their team and two of them were not going to be there today. She didn't want to leave her team with just three people, so Matt let her play. She wore a brace around her wrist and taped her two fingers together. She didn't play as hard as she usually does, but she still made three baskets!
Her coach has kind of taken her under his wing these last two weeks and wants her to play select basketball next year. We will see if that works out.
I am not going to miss getting up at 6:30 am on Saturday mornings to make it to 8 am games. Why do they play the younger kids right away in the morning?? It will also be weird not having to sit around all day until Courtney plays around 2-3 pm. I will actually have my Saturdays back!!
